Hotpot Shock: Urine Video Goes Viral!

The recent incident at a Shanghai branch of Haidilao, China's largest hotpot chain, has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about food safety and hygiene. Two 17-year-old boys were filmed urinating into a hotpot broth in a private dining room, leading to significant repercussions for the restaurant and its customers.

The viral video, which surfaced last month, depicted the teenagers standing on the table and committing the unsanitary act. Haidilao, in response to the public outcry, has apologized and taken steps to rectify the situation, including offering compensation to approximately 4,000 diners who ate at the affected branch between February 24th and March 8th.

The restaurant chain has committed to fully refunding all meals and providing a cash compensation equivalent to ten times the original bill. This substantial reimbursement highlights the severity of the incident and the company's efforts to regain consumer trust.

Haidilao acknowledged that its staff was unprepared to handle such a situation, citing a lack of contingency plans and training for unusual incidents. The company stated that all hotpots and dining utensils were replaced after the incident came to light.

Shanghai police have detained the two teenagers, who were reportedly intoxicated at the time of the incident. The incident has raised questions about the restaurant's hygiene protocols and the potential health risks posed to customers.
