Malaysia’s Ultraman Ribut To Make His Official Live-Action Debut

Tsuburaya Productions, the creators of one of Japan’s most iconic superheroes, Ultraman, has introduced a new Ultraman from Malaysia - Ultraman Ribut -.

The character is a collaboration between Malaysia’s Les’ Copaque Productions (the creators of Upin & Ipin) and Tsuburaya Productions. Ultraman Ribut first debut was in Malaysia anime Upin & Ipin back in 2015. In the show, Ribut saves Kuala Lumpur from being destroyed by alien monsters Alien Kilat, Raksasa Bayang and Raksasa Halilintar, with the help of the twins.

Ultraman Ribut will be appearing in his first official live-action movie in a special episode of Ultra Galaxy Fight: New Generation Heroes. The episode will be released on September 29 and is available in both Japanese and English.
The Ultraman Ribut powers include super-speed, an Ultra armor that can withstand high temperatures, and also a ‘Ribut Blocker’ brace he wears on his left arm, which can project a force barrier to shield him from enemy attacks.

Ultraman Ribut is a play on words for ‘reboot’, which is why he  resembles the original, minimalistic design of the original Ultraman. In a recent press conference, Tsuburaya Productions announced a global Ultraman expansion plan that includes developing South East Asia into one of its biggest markets outside of Japan.
