MSCHF, a Brooklyn-based art collective, created a microscopic Louis Vuitton handbag that is smaller than a grain of salt. The bag measures 657 by 222 by 700 micrometers, making it narrow enough to pass through the eye of a needle. It is made from neon-green photopolymer resin and was 3D printed using technology normally used for making biotech structures.

The bag is a commentary on the luxury fashion industry and the trend of tiny purses. MSCHF says that as a handbag becomes smaller and smaller, its functionality becomes less important and it becomes more of a status symbol.

The microscopic Louis Vuitton handbag is a literal interpretation of this trend, taking it to the extreme. The bag is currently being auctioned off on the Just Phriends platform. The auction ends on June 27, 2023. The starting bid is $10,000.

MSCHF did not get permission from Louis Vuitton to create the microscopic handbag. In fact, they have a history of creating products without permission from the brands they are inspired by. In 2021, they settled a lawsuit with Nike after creating a modified Air Max 97 sneaker with a small plastic cross attached to the laces. They are currently facing a trademark infringement lawsuit from Vans over a shoe they created with a modified waffle sole.

MSCHF's founder, Daniel Wiesner, has said that they are "big in the 'ask forgiveness, not permission' school." This means that they are more likely to create a product and then see if the brand they have copied takes legal action. In the case of the microscopic handbag, it is possible that Louis Vuitton will not take any action, as it is a relatively small product and may not be seen as a threat to their brand. However, it is also possible that they will sue MSCHF for copyright infringement.
