Hansle Parchment Rewarded The Volunteer Who Helped Him Pay For Taxi Fares When He Was In Danger Of Missing A Race

On August 7, 31-year-old Jamaican runner Hansle Parchment  posted a clip revealing a story on his Instagram that he took a bus to the wrong venue for his semifinal in men's 110m hurdles.

Parchment was shocked at first by his mistake, but he couldn’t wait for the next bus because he wouldn’t be able to warm up before the race. So he decided to ask for help from one of the volunteers even though he knew the volunteers couldn’t do many things.

But it turned out that volunteer called a taxi and paid his taxi fare, so he could get to the stadium on time and had enough time to warm up. Parchment finished second in the 110-meter hurdles race and the final the next day, he was able to win an Olympic gold medal.

Parchment wanted to repay the kindness of this volunteer, and upon seeing her, he called her name Trijana and asked, "Remember me?" and the girl remembered him. Parchment says that he came to repay her for helping him by showing her the Olympic gold medal that he won before, which made Trijana happy to see it. In the end, Hansle gave him a Jamaican T-shirt, returned her money and took their photos.

In addition to Parchment himself, the Jamaican government is also set to reward Trijana. According to a report by The Gleaner, Trijana is now being invited to Jamaica by the government's Ministry of Tourism.

"It is selfless what she did; one would not know what the outcome would have been," said Edmund Bartlett of the Ministry of Tourism. "No matter where in the world she is, we want to reciprocate the kindness shown to one of our own."
