A scandal erupted at German Hospital in Azerbaijan after a video surfaced showing medical staff celebrating an obstetrician-gynecologist's birthday during a surgical procedure. The video, which quickly went viral on social media, sparked outrage and prompted an investigation by the hospital.
Lyaman Aliyeva, the doctor at the center of the controversy, was suspended from her duties pending the outcome of the investigation. While the video initially appeared to show Dr. Aliyeva celebrating, further investigation revealed that the participants were actually junior nurses.
These nurses were summoned to the human resources department, where they received reprimands for their unprofessional behavior. However, Dr. Aliyeva remains suspended.
The hospital's management has emphasized that the incident is being taken seriously and that disciplinary action will be taken against those found to have violated hospital protocol.
In addition to the internal investigation, the Center for Analytical Expertise of the Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan launched an unscheduled inspection of German Hospital. The center's officials met with hospital staff to address the incident and reinforce the importance of maintaining a professional and disciplined work environment.
The final decision regarding Dr. Aliyeva's employment and any further disciplinary actions will be determined by the Ministry of Health.
