In Japan, there was a real restaurant named Shachihoko-ya that gained notoriety for offering a unique service: customers could pay to be slapped by the waitresses. This bizarre practice, known as "Nagoya Lady's Slap," involved kimono-dressed waitresses delivering open-handed slaps to willing patrons for a fee of 300 yen (approximately US$2).

The reasons why people chose to participate in this unusual practice varied. Some customers claimed that it was a form of stress relief: the slap served as a way to release pent-up tension and frustration. Others found the experience to be thrilling: the anticipation and surprise of the slap provided a unique adrenaline rush. Still others participated in the "Nagoya Lady's Slap" as a way to boost their confidence: the act of being slapped could be empowering for some individuals.

Despite the criticism, the restaurant has experienced a surge in business, with an increasing number of Japanese and foreign patrons seeking the unique and somewhat painful experience. An additional fee of 500 yen ($3.40) is required for those who wish to select the restaurant staff to slap them.

The restaurant's peculiar service garnered significant media attention, drawing both curiosity and criticism. Some found the practice humorous and harmless, while others deemed it exploitative and unethical.

In the face of mounting criticism and negative feedback, Shachihoko-ya eventually decided to discontinue the "Nagoya Lady's Slap" service. This decision was likely influenced by a number of factors, including the potential damage to the restaurant's reputation and the possibility of legal action.
