On Chinese social media Weibo, several videos were posted on the road inside the tunnel, making it difficult for vehicles to pass through. A video showing water pouring from the tunnel's ceiling and a car driving slowly with emergency flashers on and also the driver reversing the vehicle inside the tunnel was also uploaded to the Weibo.

Some Netizens also raised questions about the safety of the tunnel by saying, "I don't understand why water is leaking from the tunnel that has just been opened for 15 days."

According to the operator of the Dalian Base Tunnel on the 16th, a report was received at around 8:32 a.m. that day that water was leaking inside the tunnel. They said that water had pooled in some sections of the tunnel, but emergency repair work was completed around 10:00 am and it is operating normally.

The Dalian Public Security Bureau also confirmed that there were no problems with the tunnel, except for water leaking from the fire valve inside the tunnel. An official from the Public Security Bureau said, "The leaking water is not from a crack in the tunnel, but from a malfunction of fire valve. It has nothing to do with the leaking undersea tunnel." The authorities explained that at the time of opening, modern excavation and construction methods were used to secure durability that could last up to 100 years.
