"Well of Hell" in Yemen

Scientists from the Oman Cave Exploration Force (OCET) descended to the bottom of Barhout well located in the Al Mahra Desert in eastern Yemen for the first time. However, at the bottom of the "well", the researchers found only snakes and dead animals.

The "Well of Hell" is a sinking hole caused by the erosion of limestone. It is 30 meters wide and approximately 112 meters deep. The locals are afraid of this well and say that there is a strange smell can be smelled from there.

Eight scientists went down to the bottom of the well and spent six hours there. In addition to snakes and dead animals, they also found calcareous "pearls" (oolites) and stalagmites formed from water droplets.

They also found frogs and beetles in the cave. The team members found that the oxygen levels in the well were normal and does not contain toxic fumes. The researchers did not smell strange smells, except from the bodies of animals.
