Subway Passengers Trapped In Floods In China

At least 12 people were killed and five injured after flash floods in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan province yesterday.

Several pictures posted on local media portals showed the subway station flooded with water as high as an adult's neck. The city’s subway operators say they will close all stations on all its routes due to bad weather. Floods often occur during the heavy rainy season in China.

However, the disaster has worsened over the past few decades, among others due to the construction of several dams and waterways that block the flow of rivers and lakes.

Chinese authorities also warned that a dam in Luoyang could collapse at any time following they found a 20 -meter -long crack in the Yihetan dam, as well as parts of the riverbank also suffered severe damage from continued heavy rains.
