K-pop Singer And Actress Sulli Found Dead At Aged 25

Former f(x) star Sulli has reportedly died aged 25. Police told Yonhap that the K-pop star’s manager found Sulli dead at her home in Sujeong-gu, Seongnam in the Gyeonggi province of South Korea. Sulli was reportedly found dead after her manager went to her house when he couldn’t contact her.

The singer, real name Choi Jin-ri, means "the truth" in Korean and she was born on March 29, 1994, in Busan, South Korea. She is the third of four children and the only daughter, having two older brothers and a younger brother. Sulli suspended her K-pop career in 2014 after struggling with receiving abuse online. She returned to acting in the following year, but left f(x). Her first came to fame in 2005 aged just 11 when she played Princess Seonhwa of Silla in the SBS drama Ballad of Seodong.

Sulli debuted as a member of the girl band f(x) in 2009 alongside bandmates Victoria, Amber, Luna and Krystal in September 2009 with the single La Cha Ta. The Busan-born star had success with the girlband with songs including Pinocchio (Danger), Electric Shock and Hot Summer, but on 24 July 2014, it was announced Sulli would be taking a hiatus from the group. However, in August 2015, it was confirmed she had officially withdrawn from f(x).

Sulli made her solo debut in June with Goblin, and had a special stage at SM Town Theatre in Seoul on 29 June. She also featured on Dean’s track Dayfly in 2018. She continued to act while in f(x) and after quitting the band, appearing in the films The Pirates, Fashion King and Real and the TV dramas To The Beautiful You and Hotel Del Luna.

Sulli won the Best New Star award at the SBS Drama Awards in 2012 for her role as Goo Jae-hee in To The Beautiful You. Her last Instagram post came just a day ago, when she shared a video of a gift from the bag range Stretch Angels.

Sulli previously opened up about her panic disorder and social phobia, saying in a teaser for the reality show Jinro Store: ‘Even close people left me. I was hurt by them and felt there was nobody who understands me, which made me fall apart.’

On October 14, 2019, at 3:20 pm, Sulli was found dead by her manager at a house in Seongnam, south of Seoul. Police stated that they are investigating it as a possible suicide. The manager reportedly visited the house after his last call with Sulli, when he was not able to reach her since the afternoon. Her cause of death has yet to be confirmed.
