Indonesian Teacher Had Students Draw Their Own Genitals

A biology teacher in West Bandung Regency, Indonesia, has sparked widespread controversy and gone viral after asking her 11th-grade students to draw their own genitals as part of a lesson on the reproductive system. The teacher, identified as Wety Yuningsih, shared a video related to the assignment on her social media, leading to a swift and strong public backlash.

The assignment drew significant criticism from netizens who questioned the ethical appropriateness of the task and the teacher's decision to publicize it in social media. The video quickly gained traction, prompting a response from West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.

Governor Mulyadi has taken a firm stance on the issue, stating he will not tolerate such actions if they are found to violate educational ethics. He has indicated that he is prepared to dismiss the teacher should the investigation confirm a breach of professional conduct and has announced plans to visit the school to look into the matter directly.

In response to the criticism, Wety Yuningsih has issued a public apology through her social media account. She reportedly acknowledged her error in judgment, particularly in sharing the content online, while maintaining that the material was part of the curriculum covering the reproductive system. Despite her apology and the removal of the original video, the footage has already been re-shared across various platforms.

The incident has ignited a debate about the methods used in sex education within Indonesian schools and the responsibilities of educators in handling sensitive topics. The focus now shifts to the official investigation by educational authorities and the potential disciplinary actions the teacher may face following the review of the incident.
